My friend Carrie recently purchased an old house in south Chicago. She was very pleased with her purchase, and got a great deal on the home, but she has a lot of work cut out for her. One of her major concerns is safety. Her apartment was broken into three times, and now she is extremely careful about her home safety. one of the first things she did, even before they had moved in, was to have decorative iron shutters installed.
She had a relatively easy time deciding to get the decorative iron shutters. One major factor in her decision is that she has SAD: seasonal affective disorder. When Chicago winter hits, there’s not a whole lot of natural sunlight. She wanted as much sunlight as possible streaming through her windows. She still didn’t want to give up the safety factor, though. It was important to find something that let in light, that kept strangers out, and that would allow her to get out in case of fire or other emergency. Decorative iron shutters did the trick.
Getting the windows measured was her next step. In a few hours, all of the windows on her two-story house were measured and made ready for the installation of her decorative iron shutters. It was a clean and effortless process, for which she was grateful; anything that makes getting a new house ready in an easy way is a good thing.
Choosing the design on her decorative iron shutters came next. As an artist, she played a key role in creating the look of her shutters. She looked at the options of shutters the iron-worker already had plans for, drew up some sketches of her own, and collaborated with the iron-worker to get exactly the look she wanted.
Once she had the look she wanted, drawn up to the specifications of her window, the iron-worker created and then installed her decorative iron shutters. She could have gotten them pre-fabricated, but by designing them herself she was able to get just the look she wanted. Installation was easy and relatively quick; the decorative iron shutters were in before she was.
The whole process of deciding to get decorative iron shutters, having her windows measured, designing and creating the shutters, and having them installed, was a key step for her to feel that her home was safe, beautiful, bright, and homey.
